The Oud Abaya series begins at its conclusion, unfolding backward to emphasize the value of the present. Oud wood, a symbol of both material and spiritual worth, takes center stage. The installation features an inverted triangular-cut abaya, followed by an identical garment layered with oud wood chips, culminating in the burning of the plain abaya. From its ashes, the oud-laden abaya rises, embodying themes of transformation and the cyclical nature of existence.
The forthcoming installation, Growth Shayla, extends this narrative, introducing a one-of-a-kind headscarf as a companion to the risen Oud Abaya.
